What coach Kyle Atwood is saying
"We're further along than we've been in the past because our kids are familiar with our philosophies and schemes. We lost six weeks last year, two scrimmages and our first four non-district games. The opportunity to start on time is big for our program. The kids are excited to be back on the field."
What WR Ryan Salas is saying
"Most of us were here last year so we have chemistry. I hope we can go even further than last year. We've always made it to the second round, but never past that. I hope we can do it this year."
What QB Matthew Ortiz is saying
"I'm very open-minded and doing what my coach tells me to do and what I'm best at. I'm going over all of my reads and studying the playbook. We're a very young group right now but we have chemistry. I feel like we can connect with each other because we're all on the same page. We want to go far this year."
Alice clinched its 42nd playoff appearance in 2020 and advanced to the area round for the second consecutive season. The Coyotes are pleased with how the season started after missing two scrimmages and four non-district games last year because of COVID-19 protocols. With the departure of quarterback Jacob Guzman, Alice is looking to Matthew Ortiz, Josh Camarillo and freshman Alejandro Asevedo to fill the role. Head coach Kyle Atwood said the team hasn't decided on who the starter will be as of Thursday. Ryan Salas returns for his senior year after catching six touchdown passes and finishing with 508 receiving yards. Atwood said he expects another competitive run at the district tile with Miller, Calallen, Tuloso-Midway, Beeville and Port Lavaca Calhoun in District 15-4A Division I.
