Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco ISD announced Thursday through a post on its Facebook page that it has canceled all athletic activities scheduled for the week after an athlete came into contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19.

After interviewing individuals that may have been in contact with the athlete, the district determined that there is a medium risk level and elected to cancel all practices and games this week.

The exposed athlete has been advised to self-quarantine for 10 days and the school, although it was out of session this week, has undergone a deep cleaning.

All football, volleyball and cheer athletes must produce a negative test and be asymptomatic in order to return to school on Oct. 26.

The Badgers football team did not have a game scheduled this week and is slated to face Premont on Oct. 30.

Ben Bolt was the first school in Texas to cancel its fall sports in August due to the coronavirus. The school board voted to reinstate athletics in late September.
