Ben Bolt-Polito Blanco school district announced on its Facebook page Friday that a student-athlete had tested positive for COVID-19 and athletic activities have been suspended Friday and Saturday.

In the statement, the district said the student athlete has been asked to self-quarantine for 10 days, and that all girls basketball and football athletes/participants were sent home and will attend class virtually on Friday.

Football and girls basketball practices have been canceled for Friday and Saturday. Also, athletes much produce a negative test result, and be asymptomatic to return to school on Nov. 9.

Ben Bolt was the first district in Texas to cancel its football season in August, but the board voted in September to resume fall athletics. The Badgers football team is scheduled to face Kenedy in a Class 2A Division I bi-district game at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in Ingleside.

Ben Bolt Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Gary Cunningham said on Friday they will know more on Monday if the game will proceed. He said the athletes were tested on Friday and they should know results on Saturday.
