High School Volleyball: Alice to resume historic season

The Alice volleyball team will resume its historic season despite positive COVID-19 cases in the district.

The Lady Coyotes, who clinched a playoff berth for the first time in program history on Tuesday, will undergo testing Thursday, said Alice coach Andrea Rodriguez.

Players who test negative will report to practice Monday in preparation for the bi-district round of the playoffs, Rodriguez said.

Alice, which finished fourth in District 31-4A, opens the bi-district round Oct. 30 against either La Feria or Hidalgo at an undetermined time and location.

The team was forced to forfeit Friday's season finale against Tuloso-Midway.

Other students, athletes and coaches will also be tested for COVID-19 Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Athletes may resume workouts and competition Monday if a test comes back negative.

Students will continue to participate in remote learning until Oct 30.
