Alice has forfeited its District 15-4A Division I football game against Calallen after several students tested positive for COVID-19 or came in close contact with an infected person, school officials stated in a press release Wednesday.

No coaches, players or staff on the team have tested positive as of Wednesday, Alice head football coach and athletic director Kyle Atwood said.

Students will be required to quarantine for at least 14 days, Atwood added.

The Alice volleyball team also had to forfeit Friday's match against Tuloso-Midway. The Lady Coyotes earned a spot in the Class 4A playoffs on Tuesday.

All students, athletes and coaches will be tested for COVID-19 Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Atwood said. Athletes may resume workouts and competition Monday if a test comes back negative.

Students will participate in remote learning until Oct 30.

“We are currently setting up testing for our students and staff and will provide the dates and times as soon as possible,” the release said. “AISD will be deep cleaning and using electrostatic disinfecting at all facilities, as well as contracting a company to assist.”
