Little League season is over, but not without Alice baseball and softball leaving their mark as some of the best teams in the state.

The Alice National Seniors defeated Pecos 13-7 to claim the Texas West State title and become the first Alice little league baseball team to win a state championship.

The Alice Senior Softball girls overcame an 8-1 deficit to capture a 9-8 win against Pecos to become Texas West State champions.

The Alice American juniors finished as state finalist after a 10-6 loss to Abilene Wylie and a 7-2 loss to New Home.

The juniors defeated West Brownsville to advance to the state championship.

Alice American (9-10-11) had a season to remember after reaching the championship game and concluding the year as Texas West State Runner Ups.

"This is probably one the best years Alice has had in history of little league," said Alice senior baseball coach Javier Guzman. "Softball has always been strong and now it's carried over to baseball. We will probably be strong for the next few years."

Guzman said with COVID-19 canceling last season, kids were motivated to have a breakout year in 2021.

"Kids were itching to play," Guzman said. "You have kids going on vacation, but these kids stuck around and wanted to practice. It shows how much they want to play the game."

Alice American (9-10-11) reached the championship game and finished as Texas West State Runner Ups.

The Alice seniors return 10 players next season, setting up another success run for Guzman and his players.

Guzman said watching these kids succeed at the little league level not only sets up individual success, but success for Alice High School athletics.

"They're only going to progress," Guzman said. "With select ball, you're going to play high-level. Here, it's the same, but with more of a hometown feel."
