Jim Wells County Fair plans for 2020
The Jim Wells County Fair recently released this year’s pandemic plan and schedule for the annual livestock show and events.
“The State Fair of Texas set precedence and has implemented this format for their market shows,“ said Rogelio Mercado County Extension Agent for Texas A&M AgriLife.
This year, the annual fair will be scaled to the livestock show, sale and queens pageant. The majority of public events like the parade, carnival, concert, ranch rodeo, talent contest, peewee goat and rising star shows will not be scheduled in an effort to minimize the risk to the pubic due to the coronavirus (COVID -19).
The livestock schedule’s are scattered to reduce the amount exhibitors and livestock at the shows scheduled day. This year, the livestock animals will only be housed at the county fairgrounds for a maximum of 42 hours. The queens pageant will be hosted as an inside event and a select number of tickets will be sold to ensure occupancy guidelines due to COVID-19. .
“This year the fair contracted with ’Cattle in Motion’ to live stream the shows and sale and also provide an online bidding option for the Junior Market Sale on Saturday,“ said JWC Fair President Jim Tymrack.
