Annual 5K to raise funds for people of all abilities
CP Rochester, 3399 S. Winton Road,Henrietta, will host its 11th annual 5K Run for Fun and 1-Mile Fun Walk fundraiser May 7.
As part of the Run for Fun, an individual served by one of CP Rochester’s programs is recognized as the fundraiser’s ambassador. The 2016 ambassador is four-year-old, Trevor Bansbach, a preschooler at CP Rochester’s Augustin Children’s Center, who embodies the mission of CP Rochester and embraces the spirit of the Run for Fun.
Early on, Trevor’s parents, Tim and Mary Bansbach, noticed he was not developing typically. Their search for a human services agency to help Trevor led them to CP Rochester’s Augustin Children’s Center. Tim and Mary wanted their son to get the best care possible, and they got it at CP Rochester. Since starting with the agency, Trevor has received physical, speech and occupational therapies. In addition, he participated in CP Rochester’s Augustin Children’s Center’s Early Intervention program and is currently a student in the preschool program. He has the opportunity to interact with children of his own age and needs, which was something his parents had hoped for.
“Trevor didn’t get to play with other kids his own age in a typical setting because other children would be too rough,” Mary said. “It’s perfect for him at CP Rochester.”
The Bansbach family first got involved in the 5K Run for Fun by participating in the 1-Mile Fun Walk when Trevor was attending the Early Intervention program. “Trevor’s Team” started out small that first year, with his parents, brothers, an aunt and grandmother participating. The family quickly realized how wonderful the run was and discovered it was something people of all abilities could do.
In 2015, nearly 20 people participated on “Trevor’s Team.” Closer to 30 people are planning to join the Bensbach in 2016; some coming from as far away as Ottawa, Ontario. Won’t you join them? On the course, look for Trevor surrounded by family, friends and supporters. When you see his big, bright smile and happy personality, you’ll know why Trevor Bansbach was selected as the 2016 5K Run for Fun ambassador.
