A 60-year-old Kingsville man passed away following a multi-vehicle crash on Thursday.

The crash that killed Rusty Lee Edwards occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. six miles north of Woodsborro in Refugio County on US 77.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer, occupied by driver only, was traveling north on US 77. A 2007 Ford F-150 was traveling south on US 77, occupied by Edwards. The driver of the Kenwoth was traveling at an unsafe speed for the wet road conditions, and hydroplaned across the middle median and into the oncoming traffic of southbound US 77. The Kenworth struck a Ford F-150 in the driver’s side door, causing the F-150 to go off the right shoulder of southbound US 77, according to Sgt. Nathan Brandley with the Department of Public Safety.

Edwards was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. The driver of the Kenworth was transported by ground to Refugio Memorial Hospital in Refugio with minor injuries.

DPS Troopers are further investigating the fatal crash.
