AISD receives first round of testing results to resume UIL sports

The Alice Independent School District (AISD) started the coronavirus (COVID-19) testing Wednesday for all staff and students to mitigate a safe plan for returning to sports and classroom instruction for the 2020-2021 academic school year.

AISD received the first round of COVID-19 testing conducted on Wednesday – from 163 received, 11 resulted positive – 50 are pending.

Those who received a positive result have all been notified by medical staff and we will continue to monitor their health. Due to privacy requirements, Alice ISD cannot release the name of any individuals or details.

As per our district guidelines, AISD is conducting contact tracing in order to notify anyone who may be in close contact, as outlined by the Center for Disease Control and the Texas Education Agency.

Next week another round of testing is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. for ONLY AHS band students, band and choir directors, 5th period choir students, strutters, cheerleaders, basketball and make-up tests for AHS football, volleyball, cross-country and tennis players.
