Alice’s 10-1 win over Kingsville in the Coyote Baseball Complex Monday night combined with a Flour Bluff loss to Calallen assured the Coyotes of second place in District 31-4A.

The Coyotes did their part by taking advantage of six Brahma errors in their ball game. Kingsville’s shaky defense opened the door to a seven-run rally in the fourth inning. It was more than enough offense to take care of the Brahmas Monday.

Ruben Gonzalez went 2-for-3 and had two RBIs. Tyler Escamilla was 1-for-2 with a double.

The Brahmas’ bats were quieted by Alice starter Nathan Oliver.

Oliver, who pitched the second half of the Coyotes’ 10-6 decision against Corpus Christi Ray Saturday, was on the mound six innings Monday. He surrendered four hits and two walks, but struck out five.

Sophomore Rony Chavarria relieved Oliver and pitched the seventh. He struck out one.

The Coyotes have a game remaining on their 31-4A schedule next Friday on the road against Moody.

For Alice, the playoff berth in their fifth straight. It is also the 12th time in Alice head coach Victor Escamilla’s 15 years the Coyotes are in the postseason.
