Games decide city best minor and major league Little League teams

Pete Garcia, Alice Echo-News Journal

The biggest time of the year for Little League baseball is all-star play, which begins in the final week of June and the beginning of July.

But before Alice Little Leaguers even begin thinking about dressing up and playing in one of the District 22 all-star tournaments, the city's two leagues will go head-to-head to determine minor and major league champions.

The city's American League will host this year's city championships at their home field at Optimist Park.

On Thursday, the minor league teams - 9 and 10 year olds - take the field. The American League Devil Rays will take on the National League's Knights in the third place game at 6 p.m.

The minor league city championship will follow at 8 p.m. and will showcase the American White Soxs and the National League's Hooks.

The major league teams will meet Friday, also at Optimist Park. The American League Angels will meet the National's Braves at 6 p.m. in the third-place game. Then, the American League's Astros and the National League's Mets will square off for the city title.

All-star teams are announced following league play.
