Calallen High School Senior Alexandra Price, a varsity soccer player, was recently selected by the coaches of UIL District 60-4A as Defensive MVP.
The honor was just the frosting on the cake for Price, who accepted a soccer scholarship to attend Wayland Baptist University in Plainview last week.
Price said the honors she has received all stem from her dedication to the sport and to her team.
"It's an accomplishment that I've been working towards since I was a freshman," Price said of her MVP honor. "I put my heart on the line out there every time I play. I had hoped that my hard work this year would pay off, and it did."
As the team's center defender, Price built up 43 offside calls for the team this year, which shows the tenacity she had on the field. Price said this year proved especially difficult for teams in the district attempting to get past the Wildcats' defense.
"The lack of scores showed the coaches that I was a strong center defender," Price said. "Confidence is a big thing, and leadership, you have to have the ability to control the other defenders and have them respect you. I just tried to be the best every time I went out to play."
Along with being First Team All District Defender her freshman and sophomore years, Price was also Newcomer of the Year her freshman year, Second Team All South Texas as a sophomore, First Team All District Defender as a junior and All Academic Team. Price is also in the top 20 percent of her graduating class, in Student Council, National Honors Society, Quill and Scroll Society and the school newspaper.
