With just some 20 ticks left on the clock Tuesday night, the Alice Coyotes were in a position to take the best team in District 31-4A into overtime.

Trailing by three, Alice picked up a defensive rebound and called time out to set up a potential game-tying three-pointer.

But instead of an Alice thriller, Flour Bluff took charge by stealing the ball to set up two free-throws.

With the free throws, Flour Bluff went on to win, 61-56.

The Hornets bettered their district mark to 5-1. Alice dropped to 2-4.

The Coyotes hung with the Hornets for most of the night.

They overcame a dismal start and went on to lead the game at halftime, 34-30.

It was a big night for Chris Mijares who finished with a game-high 31 points. Ricky Pena had five.

The San Diego Vaqueros had big points from Joseph Martinez and Raymond Maldonado Tuesday night to beat Lyford, 47-38.

The Bulldogs gave the Vaqueros problems early and led after the first quarter, but after that, it was all San Diego.

With the victory, San Diego jumps to 5-0 in District 31-3A and 26-1 for the season.
