Aliceís playoff hopes come down to Monday night.
After losing an 11-6 decision to Corpus Christi Ray Saturday afternoon, the Lady Coyotes are in a three-way tie with the Lady Texans and the Kingsville Lady Brahmas.
The three are 5-6, but that will change Monday night.
Kingsville plays in Alice at 7 p.m. Monday. In their first match-up, the Lady Coyotes dominated the Lady Brahmas and won, 16-2. At the same time, Ray is taking on state-ranked Corpus Christi Moody, who they lost to 12-1 a month ago.
If things go Aliceís way Monday ó they beat Kingsville and Ray loses to Moody ó the Lady Coyotes finish the season 6-6 and alone in third place behind first-place Moody and second-place Tuloso-Midway.
The Lady Coyotes put themselves in this position Saturday by falling apart against the Lady Texans. Alice had control of the game after an inside-the-park grand slam by Lexie Villarreal. Alice carried that lead into the bottom of the fourth. Thatís when Ray tied the game.
The Lady Texans went on to score eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
The score didnít reflect the kind of day Alice had at the plate. They totaled 13 hits.
Leandra Trigo was 3-for-4. Cayla Flores, Ariana Munoz, Micaela Valdez and Villareal had two hits each.
Zalysa Perez was given the loss. She struck out two through three innings. Selina Moreida struck out five through three innings. They each gave up three hits.
The Alice Coyotes, who beat the Ray Texans Saturday afternoon, are at home Monday night against Kingsville. Game time is 7 p.m.
Alice is trying to get back a win after losing to Kingsville in their first match-up.
