The Calallen High School boys and girls track teams won District 31-4A team titles on April 13, with several students earning the right to move on to the 4A Regional Meet in San Antonio May 2 and 3.

This is the fourth year in a row the girls team won district, CHS girls track coach John Hilliard said.

"We just have a great group of young ladies. They work hard, they're talented and they have great heart," Hilliard said.

The Calallen boys track team, under CHS boys track coach Steve Campbell, easily took the district title, with a total score of 219, which was more than 100 points ahead of the second place team, Flour Bluff, with 106. Tuloso-Midway boys track placed third with 96 points.

The Calallen girls track team were behind 55 points after the first day of district competition, but pushed ahead on the strength of their relay and individual track events, reaching a total of 179 points for the title. Tuloso-Midway girls track came in second with 151 points, followed by Flour Bluff with 144 points.

During last weekend's regional qualifying meet, a warm-up to the San Antonio Regional 4A meet, the girls took the top spot, despite a number of subs used in the relay and other races that day. The Calallen boys track team placed third at the qualifying meet.

"We don't really go into a regional qualifiers meet trying to win it. We really go into it to try and stay injury free and get a little better," Hilliard said. "It's a workout for us."

Both Calallen teams will attend the Regional Meet in San Antonio on May 2 and 3 at Alamo Stadium. The top two competitors in each event will advance to the State Meet in Austin on May 13.
