After Tuesday night's 43-23 bi-district victory against Mission, Alice coach Tracy Zamora was sure of two things - her Lady Coyotes didn't play well in that game and if they played that way again, their trek through the state playoffs will be a short one.

"We just didn't play as well as I thought we could at the beginning," Zamora said. "We played better in the second half, but we're going to have to pick it up a lot next time."

And the Lady Coyotes' next opportunity to play better comes right away. Alice will meet up with Gregory-Portland at 7 p.m. tonight at Sinton High School in the area round of the Class 4A state playoffs.

The two teams are no strangers. The Lady Coyotes handed the Lady Wildcats with ease here at home in November, but then lost a tournament game against the same team in the Victoria Toast of the Coast Tournament.
