The Lady Vaqueros played everyone on their varsity roster in a 16-2 win against the Freer Lady Buckaroos Friday night.

Moreover, the San Diego girls clinched third place in District 31-2A behind Refugio and Bishop. It is Lady Vaqueros third-straight state playoff berth.

San Diego is anticipating a first-round playoff game against either Rivera or Hebbronville from District 32-2A.

Friday's win was one San Diego had in hand early. Freshman pitching sensation Gabby Gonzalez began the game and struck out all six batters she faced through two innings. Sirena Martinez replaced her after the second and was given the win.

She also led the team at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run.

The win put the Lady Vaqueros back in the win column after losing to Bishop, 6-1, in San Diego Tuesday night. It was only their third District 31-2A loss of the season. Bishop pitcher Leslie Castillo struck out 14 San Diego batters through seven innings. She allowed the Lady Vaqueros only one walk and five hits.

San Diego plays in its final regular-season home game at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Skidmore-Tynan. On Thursday, the Lady Vaqueros travel to Taft for their  regular season finale.
