Sydnei Vela turned in a leap of 16 feet, two inches to win the long jump and a gold medal for the Alice Lady Coyotes at the annual Chatter Allen Relays at Cabaniss Multipurpose Stadium in Corpus Christi.
Vela led a girls team which had a decent showing against the Corpus Christi-area’s top 5A, 4A and 3A track and field programs.
Gabby Solis placed third for Alice in the 300-meter hurldes with a time of 47.70.
Alex Ramirez placed in the long jump and the 400-meter dash. She was fourth in the long jump with a jump of 14-6.5 and she was sixth in the 400.
Pilar Resendez was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 32-7.
Alice was also third in the mile relay and fifth in the 800-meter relay.
Orange Grove’s girls held their own against the bigger schools in the meet. Logan Nelson won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.14. She was also fourth in the 400-meter dash.
Heather Franco was second in the 3,200-meter run and Amber King was second in the 100-meter hurdles. Tara Valent was sixth in the 1,600-meter run.
The Lady Bulldogs were fifth in the mile relay.
In the boys’ division, Michael Garcia won the 400-meter dash and was second in the 800. He won the 400 meters with a time of 51.74. His time in the 800 was 2:02.84.
J.C. Rivera was fourth in the 100 with a time of 10.77 and he placed third in the 200 with a time of 21.80.
Shane Myers was third in the pole vault. He cleared 12-6.
Tyler Escobar was fourth for Alice in the 300-meter hurdles.
