Next season's Alice High School football team hit the weights Monday night for a worthy fundraising cause.
Ironically, by testing in the bench press and squats and several agility exercises like the 40-yard dash and 20-yard shuttle run, the athletes helped raise money for improvements to the program's weightroom.
The football program held its annual Night of Champions fundraiser Monday at the Alice High School weightroom.
Alice High School junior Ryan Pakebusch was the top fundraiser for a third year in a row. Pakebusch raised some $700 by himself.
Alice coach Chris Soza said the program was grateful to Texas Champion Bank, which sponsored the event for a seventh year in a row.
"A special thanks to all the businesses, parents and community members who sponsored our football players," he said. "Thanks to all who attended… our kids really appreciated the fan support. Finally, we also want to thank our All-Sports Boosters for providing the public with hot dogs and drinks after the workout."
The planned improvements to the weight room will be in the form of new weights and weightlifting belts.
