The Tuloso-Midway Cherokees softball team advanced to the second round of the playoffs Friday after defeating the Weslaco East Wildcats, 11-0.
Junior Kirsten Schwirtlich silenced Weslaco Eastís batters for the Cherokees, striking out 13 hitters in the game, which was stopped after five innings. The Cherokeesí standout also hit a Grand Slam in the second inning.
The Cherokeesí next opponent will be decided following Saturdayís slate of softball games.
