Four Alice High School lifters are lifting at the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association state meet in Waco in mid-March.

The lifters advanced to state hitting the qualifying total in their respective weight classes at the Region V, Div. I meet at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest High School Saturday. Alexis Herrera, Mia Macias, Alaura Gonzalez and Marissa Garcia were Alice’s qualifiers.

Herrera was Alice’s highest finishing lifter in the meet. Herrera took fourth place in the 97-pound weight class with a total of 630 pounds.

Macias totaled 695 pounds to place ninth in the 105-pound weight class. Her weight total was 20 pounds heavier than what she lifted to win a state title a year ago.

Gonzalez, a freshman, advanced in the 114-pound weight class with a total of 675 pounds.

Garcia was seventh in the 259-pound weight class with a 980-pound total. Each one of her lifts were personal bests.

97-pound weight class: * 4 – Alexis Herrera, 250 squat, 130 bench press, 250 dead lift, 630 total. 17 – Miranda Ortiz, 210 squat, 95 bench press, 225 dead lift, 530 total.

105-pound weight class: * 9 – Mia Macias, 310 squat, 130 bench press, 255 bench press, 695 total.

114-pound weight class: *23 - Alaura Gonzalez, 265 squat, 125 bench press, 285 dead lift, 675 total.

165-pound weight class: 24 - Makayla Markham, 325 squat, 165 bench press, 275 dead lift, 765 total.

259-pound weight class: * 7 – Marissa Garcia, 425 squat, 175 bench press, 328 dead lift, 980 total.
