The Alice Municipal Golf Course, with its rows of healthy mesquite trees and long fairways, was a hit.

That was the consensus of the close to 200 golfers to descended on South Texas for the National Pan American Golf Association Winter Meeting and Tournament this past weekend. The Alice PAGA group hosted the national event at the Alice Municipal Golf Course and the River Hills County Club in Calallen.

A total of 175 golfers, all PAGA members, participated in the tournament and the winter meeting. In all, the event brought some 250 people to Alice for the weekend, organizers said.

The National PAGA organization has been in existence for more than fifty years, promoting golf for men, women, and juniors, through community involvement and fundraising activities. The National PAGA is established in nine states with 43 Chapters and a membership of over 2,600.

The last time Alice hosted the tournament was some 12 years ago.
