The San Diego Vaqueros already had one win this season against traditional baseball powerhouse Falfurrias.
The Vaqueros beat the Jerseys, 7-0, on their way to beating Hebbronville, 6-5, in extra innings and winning the Falfurrias tournament earlier this month.
However, the 3-1 win San Diego had over Falfurrias Tuesday night mattered more since it counted in the competitive District 31-3A standings.
Christian Alvarez hit a fly ball to centerfield to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, breaking open a 1-1 tie. The Vaqueros' Jeron Adams and Brandon Ramirez scored on the fly ball to give San Diego the late lead.
Pitcher Mateo Saenz then preserved the win by striking out two and forcing a ground ball in the top of the seventh. Saenz threw seven strong innings, striking out 11 and giving up one run.
After Falfurrias scored a run in the top of the fourth, San Diego answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning when R. Ramirez stole home. Ramirez got on board on a hard ground ball to left field. He advanced on a Ramirez base hit.
Derrick Gonzalez and Ramirez were both 2-for-3. Alvarez was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Saenz drew two walks.
