ROBSTOWN — The San Diego Lady Vaqueros dominated the small school regional powerlifting meet Friday in Robstown.

The Lady Vaqueros won the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Region 5 Division 3 powerlifting meet at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds Arena Friday afternoon.

Ellie Carrillo, Mercedes Rodriguez and Alexis Gallegos won their weight classes and qualified to the upcoming state meet.

Carrillo won the 148-pound weight class with a 950-pound total. It included a 380-pound squat, a 220-pound bench press and a deadlift of 350 pounds. Rodriguez won the 165-pound weight class with a 980-pound total. She had a squat of 400 pounds, a bench press of 195 pounds and a deadlift of 385 pounds. Gallegos won the 198-pound weight class with a 1,060-pound total that included a 440-pound squat, a bench press of 275 and a deadlift of 345.

San Diego had a total of five girls advance to state. The Lady Vaqueros' other state qualifiers included Amber Gallegos, who was fourth in the 97-pound weight class, and Makayla Salaiz, who was fourth in the 132-pound weight class. In the 259-pound weight class, Jodi Linscomb advanced.

Freer’s Caitlyn Luarca qualified in the 97-pound weight class. In the 114-pound weight class, Mariah Alaniz was second and qualified. Makalya Cano also advanced. Analeigha Salinas advanced in the 165-pound weight class. Raschel Lerma qualified by winning the 220-pound weight class. Freer also had state qualifiers in Jodi Linscomb in the 259-pound weight class and Brianna Leal in the 198-pound weight class. 

For Agua Dulce, Joanna Flores advanced in the 105-pound weight class.

For Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco, Jackie Salazar qualified to state in the 259-pound weight class.
