Alice High School senior Jacqueline Guerra is the lifter to beat at regionals Saturday.

Going into the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association's Region 5, Division 1 and 2 meet, Guerra is ranked first in the 181-pound weight class. Her weight total of 1,095 pounds is 45 pounds more than anyone else in the weight class.

Guerra, who won a silver medal at the state meet in 2018, is one of six Alice lifters competing in the regional meet Saturday.

Julie Sepulveda is going into regionals ranked third in the 220-pound weight class. Sepulveda was fourth at state last year. Alexis Herrera is third in the 97-pound weight class. Herrera was second at state last year.

Other Alice lifters competing at the regional meet are Mia Macias in the 105-pound weight class, Marissa Garcia in the 259-pound weight class and Mila Garza in the super heavyweight class.

The regional meet is Saturday at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial High School. The meet is being hosted by Edcouch-Elsa High School. The top two finishers in each weight class, as well as lifters who reach the state qualifying total for their weight class, advance to the THSWPA state meet in Waco on March 15 and 16.
