The District 29-5A match-up between Alice and Gregory-Portland could have gone either way Tuesday night.

However, when time expired the back-and-forth battle Alice High School gym was won by the Wildcats, 50-47.

Gregory-Portland built a slight lead early the game. They led by one after the first period. They went by two by halftime and then went up by four going into the fourth. While Alice outscored Gregory-Portland in the fourth, it wasn’t enough at the end.

Senior John Leija led Alice with 17 points. He had a pair of three-point baskets. Ramiro Chavez scored 14, including three three-pointers. Josh Harris scored six off two three-pointers.

The Coyotes dropped to 2-7 in District 29-5A, while Gregory-Portland improved to 2-7.
