CALALLEN — Exchange student Jaoa Trindade had never played American football until he arrived at Calallen High School this year.

However, with the District 15-5A, Div. II championship on the line Friday night, Trindade helped his Wildcat teammate to a last-second win and another district title by kicking a 31-yard field goal.

The late field goal put Calallen ahead of Port Lavaca-Calhoun, 23-20.

The hard-fought and evenly-matched was tied with the Wildcats took over for their last drive with 7:59 left to play.

Calallen quarterback Jarrett Garza carried the ball 13 times for 94 yards. He also had a rushing touchdown and threw for a touchdown to receiver Dylan Filla. Running back AJ Brown had to fight for 108 yards on 25 carries. Brown picked up the last fourth-down conversion to set up the game-winning touchdown. Filla had a big game. He caught a 35-yard touchdown pass and recovered a fumble on defense.
