THE WEEK IN REVIEW
Team of the Week: Bowie
The Bulldogs (4-2, 2-2 District 25-6A) got a much-needed win to stay in playoff position, and it came in the form of a 27-0 shutout over Anderson (2-3, 1-2). A 62-yard punt return touchdown by Jackson Lord sparked things for Bowie, and running back Kyle Carter scored the final three touchdowns in a 23-carry, 163-yard effort. The Bulldogs held the Trojans to 138 yards of total offense. Bowie now gets an open week to rest up.
Player of the Week: Tavierre Dunlap, Del Valle
The numbers speak for themselves. The Cardinals running back had 24 carries for 390 yards and five touchdowns Thursday in a 58-39 romp over Austin High (2-4, 1-3). Dunlap scored on runs of 67, 11, 89, 43 and 61 yards to help Del Valle (3-3, 1-3) earn its first district win. Dunlap is nearing on 1,000 yards for the season, with 886 in six games.
The rest of the district
Lake Travis (5-0, 4-0) cruised into the Battle of the Lakes against Westlake with an easy 64-7 win over Lehman (0-5, 0-3). The Cavaliers held out wide receiver Garrett Wilson, an Ohio State commit, due to a back injury but it didn’t matter as eight different Lake Travis targets caught a pass. … Hays (5-0, 3-0) rolled over Akins (3-3, 1-3) by a 56-21 margin.
THE WEEK IN PREVIEW
Game of the Week: Lake Travis at Westlake
The game that every Central Texas high school football fan has circled on their calendar has finally arrived. In 2017, the Chaparrals (4-1, 3-0) finally snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Cavaliers, who will see this year’s game as a chance for payback. Due to district realignment, the game will be played at Chaparral Stadium for the second straight year. Both teams are unbeaten in district, but Westlake picked up a blemish in Week 2 when it blew a lead in the fourth quarter against Cypress Ranch. Lake Travis has yet to be challenged, and a talented Chaps' defense will pose the biggest test yet for an offense featuring Wilson and Texas quarterback commit Hudson Card.
Hays travels inside Austin city limits on Thursday for a meeting with Austin High at House Park. … Akins hosts Anderson at Burger Stadium. … Del Valle looks to keep momentum as it faces Lehman at Bob Shelton Stadium in the suburbs of Mountain City.
