Richardson, Texas (LSC/TAMUK) - The Texas A&M-Kingsville cross country programs learned of their preseason fate on Tuesday as the Lone Star Conference released the preseason polls for both sports leading up to the 2018 campaign.

The Javelina men's cross country program was picked to finish fifth in conference following a similar finish at the LSC Championships in Kingsville for 2017, while the women's program was picked to finish eighth after a year that featured an eighth place finish in the LSC during the postseason.

"We're looking to climb the ladder," said head coach Ryan Dall. "We've been consistent on the men's side and we've had good years so we're looking to maintain that consistency.

"For the women, we're looking to improve and we have some good young runners coming in as well as some strong veterans that can step up and help us be better than our ranking."

The TAMUK men were spearheaded by junior Jose Ventura IV(San Antonio, Texas) who ran to a fourth place finish at the LSC Championships in 2017 behind a time of 26:23.40 mark as the team finished in fifth.

Ventura IV would go on to finish 52nd at the NCAA South Central Regional in Canyon, Texas, as the Javelinas finished 23rd as a team.

For the Blue and Gold women, sophomore Lauren Rodriguez(San Benito, Texas) posted the top time at the LSC Championships behind a mark of 25:10.00 performance as TAMUK ended up in eighth as a team.

At the regional, Rodriguez followed up with a time of 25:52.64 on the 6K course to finish 160th.

The first event for both squads will be in Dallas as the Javelinas will compete at the Orville Rogers Cross Country Opener hosted by Dallas Baptist on Sept. 1.
