The Alice Swim Team has two home meets scheduled for the Multi-Use Complex this summer.

The team’s first meet of the season is at the indoor pool in Alice Saturday. The Alice Barracudas are hosting the Tuloso-Midway Summer League. Warm-ups are set for 8 a.m. and the meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.

This year’s Alice summer swim team includes more than 140 swimmers. Since mid-May, the team has been taking part in “dry land” and pool workouts organized by new Alice Swim Team coach Brittany Brown. A former Alice Swim Team and Alice High School swimmer, Brown is currently the head swim coach at Corpus Christi King. Former Alice swimmers Hannah Hayslip and Matthew Lara are assistants. Former King swimmer Elle Boyd, who has numerous state and national title and who is continuing her swim career in Virginia this fall, is also an assistant this summer in Alice.

Brown replaces long-time Alice Swim Team coach Cheto Perez.

Alice has another home meet next week at the natatorium before a June 30th meet in Corpus Christi. The Barracudas are set to compete in the annual Corpus Christi City Championships, but that meet, which pits Alice against the top swimmers in Corpus Christi, has yet to be finalized. One of the biggest meets of the summer, it is traditionally held at the Corpus Christi Natatorium, however, it was held in Alice in 2017 because of repairs at the Corpus Christi pool. Brown said the meet is tentatively scheduled to return to Corpus Christi, but it has yet to be determined.
