Alice High School senior Criselda Cruz faced some Div. I college-caliber competition in the triple jump at the Class 5A UIL State Track and Field Championships Friday in Austin.

A quick glance at the final results in Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas is proof of what Cruz was up against.

Cruz, Alice High School’s triple jump recorder, had a decent day and jumped 37 feet and placed ninth. Cruz was eight feet off the top jump and winner Jasmine Moore of Mansfield Lake Ridge who jumped 45-04.75 Moore had a stellar afternoon beating second-place Savoria Anderson of Burleson Centennial, who jumped 39-03.75.

Cruz officially finished in third at the Region IV-5A meet. She was in second, but a meet error put her in third. She advanced after a spot in the field opened last week.

In 2017, Cruz broke the Alice High School triple jump record with a leap of 37-5. She broke the record again as a senior this year by jumping 38 feet.
