Memorial Intermediate School will have bragging rights for at least another year.

Memorial edged Dubose in the Alice ISD 19th Junior Olympics Monday evening in Memorial Stadium. It was Memorial’s second-consecutive Junior Olympics victory.

When all of the results from all of the events — ranging from the sack race to 50-meter shuttle relay and the 800-meter relay — Memorial outscored Dubose by almost 100 points, 752-660.

Memorial was coached by coaches Joe A. Gonzalez and Gayle Rogers Garza and assistant coaches Tasha Valdez and George Cantu.

“Our kids went out each day and put in the work,” Garza said. “They never complained. Each and every one of our athletes knew that they had one shot to go out there and prove themselves. And that’s exactly what they did. They gave it their best to represent Memorial like champions.”

Alice ISD is having its Little Olympics, which features the city’s elementary public schools, Thursday in Memorial Stadium.
