The Flour Bluff Lady Hornets are one of the teams in contention for one of the four playoff spots in District 30-5A.

On Friday, the Lady Hornets did their best to hang on to that spot at the expense of the Alice Lady Coyotes.

Flour Bluff scored 14 runs off 12 hits and a trio of Alice errors to win 14-2 in four innings. However, for most of the way, the game was even and then a one-run ball game.

The Lady Hornets scored three runs in the top of the third inning off two sacrifice fly balls and a wild pitch. Alice responded in the bottom of the third with a two-run double by Sarina Cantu.

Things fell apart for Alice in the top of the fourth inning as the Lady Hornets exploded for 11 runs. Six Flour Bluff batters knocked in runs. The Lady Hornets also scored runs off two Lady Coyote errors.

Molly Rhodes got the win for Flour Bluff Lady Hornets Varsity. She lasted three innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out five and walking one.  Jayden Wilson threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Sam Hinojosa took the loss for Alice. She lasted four innings, allowing 12 hits.

Kayla Escobar led Alice with two hits in two at-bats.

The Lady Hornets remained in third place in the district race with Gregory-Portland. The two teams are 7-2 in 30-5A. For the Lady Coyotes, Friday night’s setback dropped them to 2-7.
