The Alice Coyotes scored seven runs in the first three innings and then hung on to beat the Class 4A Rockport-Fulton Pirates, 7-4, Wednesday afternoon.

The non-district match-up is one of two home games this week before the Coyotes begin District 30-5A North Zone play Tuesday here at home against the Corpus Christi Ray Texans.

Alice was efficient in the win against Rockport-Fulton. They scored runs in the first and second innings before exploding for five runs in the bottom of the third.

The Coyotes scored a run off an error by the Pirates to begin the third. They then padded their lead off more Rockport-Fulton miscues before outfielder R.J. Garcia singled to score another run and push Alice’s lead to 7-1.

Freshman pitcher Jacob Guzman went the distance for Alice and earned the win. He gave up seven hits and four earned run through seven innings. He struck out six and walked three.

Senior Matt Saenz was 4-for-4 with an RBI and Trey Jaramillo was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Garcia was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
