A group of South Texas lifters is representing the region in the upcoming Texas High School Powerlifting Association championships in Abilene.

The boys advanced to the state meet by placing in the Region 5, Division 3 regional meet at Bishop High School Friday and Saturday. The top two lifters in each division and lifters who hit a qualifying total in their respective weight class advance to the state meet.

San Diego had two individual regional champions in Anthony Perez and Michael Salaiz. Perez won the 148-pound weight class with a 1,520 total and Salaiz totaled 1,575 to win the 242-pound weight class.

Adrian Campos won the 123-pound weight class with a 1,080-pound total.
