After a weekend of well-played baseball, the Alice Coyotes found themselves in a hole in a match-up against District 30-5A North Zone foe Tuloso-Midway Saturday night.

The Coyotes fell behind 4-0 in the top of the first inning and were never able to fully recover. The Warriors ended up winning an 8-3 decision the championship game of the Alice tournament at the Coyote Baseball Complex.

Alice answered Tuloso-Midway’s big rally with a three-run rally of their own in the bottom the third. The Coyotes scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Saenz. They then scored an RBI single by Jacob Guzman. Alice’s third run of the inning came on an error by Tuloso-Midway.

The Coyotes’ comeback was short-lived as the Warriors answered with another four-run rally in the top of the fourth.

The Warriors ended the game with 12 hits.

Saenz started on the mound for the Coyotes. He allowed 10 hits and eight runs in four innings of work. Seven of the eight runs he allowed were earned. A.J. Arellano relieved Saenz in the fifth. He held the Warriors to just two hits for the remainder of the game.

With the loss, the Coyotes took second in the tournament behind Tuloso-Midway.

The Coyotes beat IWA, 2-1, in an earlier game Saturday. On Friday, Alice tied Flour Bluff, 2-2, and they lost to Laredo Cigarroa, 7-2.
