The San Diego girls powerlifting team had a strong showing at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association championships Saturday in Carrizo Springs.

The team qualified 10 lifters to the THSWPA state meet in two weeks. The top two lifters in ever weight class advance to state, as well as other lifters who lift a qualifying weight total.

Gallegos was named the meet's Oustanding Lifter for her total, which included a 455-pound squat, a 265-pound bench press and a 480-pound deadlift.

Eight other San Diego lifters were provisional qualifiers.

Freer’s Mariah Alaniz qualified by placing second in the 105-pound weight class with a 690-pound total and Orange Grove’s Jeannie Flores was second in the 259-pound plus weight class with a total of 1,060 pounds.
