The Alice Coyotes closed out the Mission Sharyland tournament with a 9-1 win against Edinburg North Saturday.

Alice, who plays Kingsville at home Tuesday night, scored three in the third, two in the fourth and another three in the fifth to put the game away in five innings.

Sophomore Brian Gutierrez earned the win. He went four and third innings. He surrendered one hit and one run. He struck out four while now allowing a walk.

Mateo Saenz had a pair of RBIs in the game.

The Coyotes had a rough start Friday, but they finished the day on a positive note.

Alice began the day with a 14-7 loss to Pioneer. Alice committed four errors and its pitchers surrendered nine hits. Sophomore Isaiah Aguilar started on the mound and went only a third of an inning. He allowed five hits and three walks and gave up eight runs. Freshman Jacob Guzman was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Pete Beltran was with 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk

The Coyotes rebounded by beating Port Isabel, 13-3, in five innings. Alice scored eight in the third and five in the fifth. They committed three errors, but Port Isabel helped Alice’s caused with five errors.

Mateo Saenz was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Josh Trevino was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Saenz was also given the win. He struck out six while allowing seven hits and three runs.

Alice finished Thursday 10-4 loss to Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial. They had seven hits, including two by Guzman, but Veterans Memorial had 14 hits.
