KINGSVILLE — The Alice Lady Coyotes couldn’t have picked a better way to begin softball season.
Playing in their first game of 2018, the Alice girls beat H.M. King, 14-2, Tuesday.
The Lady Coyote had 16 hits, and starting pitcher Layla Rodriguez gave up two runs and scattered a couple of hits while striking out five.
Alice coach Janay Gonzalez said her squad was able to adjust to HMK’s slower-than-normal pitcher.
“The girls did really well tonight,” Gonzalez said. “They did a great job of adjusting to (HMK’s) pitcher.”
Sam Hinojosa went 3-for-4 for Alice. Sarina Cantu was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Maylyn Saenz was 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Rodriguez, Hailey Garza and Kayla Hernandez were 2-for-4. Garza had an RBI. Delilah Maldonado had an RBI and Hannah Rodriguez was 2-for- 3 with four 4RBs.
Alice is playing at home at Alice High School at 5:30 p.m. Friday against IWA.
