The Alice Lady Coyotes have one more must-win to get out of this multi-layered District 30-5A and into the bi-district round of the state playoffs.

The only thing is the team Alice is facing is a favorite to reach the Region IV tournament.

After a loss in Monday night’s North Zone second-place tiebreaker, the Lady Coyotes settled for third place in the zone’s final standings. That means Alice gets the second-place team from the South in the inter-zone game this weekend. First and second in the South Zone was decided Tuesday night in a showdown between state-ranked Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial and Flour Bluff. The Lady Hornets beat Veterans Memorial, which means Alice gets Veterans this weekend.

Veterans Memorial finished the North Zone with a 7-1 record. Flour Bluff faces North Zone champ Ray for the 30-5A championship.

Going into the tiebreaker, Veterans Memorial is ranked No. 19 in Class 5A, while Flour Bluff is an honorable mention on the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Class 5A Top 25.

Alice lost its second-place tiebreaker to Tuloso-Midway, 60-46, Monday night at Miller High School. T-M held Alice to only 18 first-half points in the contest.

The Lady Coyotes are 21-13 for the season. It’s the second-straight year in which Alice reaches the inter-zone playoff round.
