KINGSVILLE — The plan for this season is to build on the experience of last season and to be better for it.

Well, that’s exactly for the Alice Lady Coyotes did in their 2017-18 season opener Tuesday evening at H.M. King High School in Kingsville.

The Alice girls won their first game of the season against Class 4A Kingsville. The Lady Coyotes won, 55-44.

Thanks to a six-point first quarter by Cruz, Alice built a 16-10 lead early on. Cruz, Tayler Blum and Kayla Escobar each had five in the second to maintain the Lady Coyotes’ lead. Escobar accounted for 10 points in the second half, including six in the third quarter to hold off the Lady Brahmas.

Escobar led Alice with 17 points, followed by Cruz with 15.Blum, a transfer from Flour Bluff, added 12. Kaity Buentello had seven.

Alice did struggle from the free throw line, making good on only five of 14 attempts.
