CALALLEN — It took all of five games and the fifth game was decided by just two. However, when the dust up finally settled at the Calallen High School gym, it was the girls from San Diego who were celebrating the victory.
San Diego defeated Skidmore-Tynan Tuesday night in Calallen to win a Class 3A bi-district championship. The Lady Vaqueros are moving on and facing Class 3A’s fourth-ranked London. The area match up is set for 5:30 p.m. at Alice High School.
The Lady Vaqueros won, 25-17, 26-28, 25-16, 21-25 and 15-13.
Leandra Bazan led the team with 20 kills. Alex Gonzalez had six and Kriselda Vela had five. Marley Martinez had three. Alexia Rivera led San Diego with two aces. Lady Rios led the team in digs with 22 and Martinez had 21. Lianna Vela had nine. Bazan had two blocks and Andrea Jimenez had one.
London reached the area round of the playoffs by beating, 25-10, 25-7 and 25-20. London is 20-5 for the season and ranked No. 4 in Class 3A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
