Less than a week after stepping on the court for the first time in August, the Alice Lady Coyotes opened the new volleyball season against a strong Corpus Christi Carroll squad.

And, while the outcome wasn’t in Alice’s favor, the Lady Coyotes can draw some encouragement from a solid showing.

Alice lost to Carroll in three games, but they pushed the Lady Tigers to the brink in the first game. The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Coyotes, 27-25 in the first games. They came back and won the second game, 25-17. They won the third game, 25-10.

Megan Lopez had three kills and Lea Salazar had seven assists. Sophomore Sarina Cantu had 38 digs. Katelyn Hernandez and Mireya Villarreal had four blocks each.

The Lady Coyotes are continuing district play Wednesday with a match-up on the road against Calallen. Game time is 6 p.m.

Some other area volleyball games of interest on Wednesday include a full slate of District 30-5A match-ups between Veterans Memorial and Miller, Moody and Carroll, Flour Bluff and Ray and Gregory-Portland and King.
