The Alice Coyote football team will have a new blocking sled to break in this football season thanks to a donation from boosters.

The Alice Coyote Booster Club recently purchased the sleek new sled to replace the program’s other sled which was first put in use some 25 years ago, according to the school district.

Alice coach Kyle Atwood said it’s a privilege for the program to have an active booster club which gives back to the program.

“This is an expensive piece of equipment,” he said. “We’re grateful to have it, and we’re going to put it to use.”

Over the last year, the booster club has awarded $30,000 in donations to the Alice High School athletic department. Every high school sport was awarded money to cover everything from new equipment to travel and meals at tournaments.

The $30,000 includes scholarships awarded to Alice High School seniors this spring.

The money the club donates to the program is generated from operating its concession stand at Memorial Stadium throughout the school year.
