This year’s Alice Summer Track program includes some 200 young athletes between the ages of 3 and 17. The team began their season Friday with meets in Flour Bluff and Corpus Christi.
Alice Summer Track coach Marissa Acosta said this year’s participation is overwhelming.
“It's pretty incredible if you ask me,” she said. “It's a great way to keep kids active throughout the summer. We have a lot of kids who have been in summer track for years and others who are giving it a shot for the first time.”
The schedule for this week has Alice’s primary, sub-bantum, bantam, sub-midget and midget divisions running at Warrior Stadium at Tuloso-Midway High School Friday morning. The morning meet begins at 9 a.m. Alice’s youth, intermediate, young men and young women divisions are competing at Cabaniss Field Friday evening. The evening meet begins at 6 p.m.
