Alice could have its new head football coach and athletic director on April 10.

School superintendent Dr. Grace Everett said all of the applications for the position were reviewed and eight finalists were selected. Those eight coaches will be interviewed sometime next week and a finalist is scheduled to be voted on by the school board at a regular board meeting April 10.

Everett said the district isn’t releasing a list of finalists since those applying are still employed at other schools.

A committee, made up of board trustees Mike Cochran, Lee Ramon and Herman Arellano, completed sifting through the applicants for the job and picked the eight finalists Thursday evening.

The new coach will replace Justen Evans who left Alice after a year to be the head coach and athletic coordinator at Corpus Christi Miller High School. Evans announced he was leaving last Friday morning.

In his one season here, the Coyotes were 7-3. It was the team’s best finish since 2013, however because of the zone format in the 11-team district, Alice missed the playoffs.

The district received some 44 applications for the job.
