Alice High School has two boys who qualified to this year’s Texas High School Powerlifting Association state meet and San Diego has three.

The boys advanced by placing or hitting qualifying weight totals at regional meets this weekend.

At the Region 5, Division 1 meet in Weslaco, Cody Juarez was second in the 114-pound weight class with a 1,055-pound total and Alex Gonzalez lifted 1,380 to place third in the 165-pound weight class.

San Diego’s lifters won three weight classes at the Region 5, Division 3 meet at Bishop High School. Anthony Perez won the 132-pound weight class with a 1,275-pound total and Javier Rodriguez totaled 1,465 to with the 165-pound weight class. Michael Salaiz won the 242-pound weight class with a 1,500-pound total.

Orange Grove lifter Jose Soliz won the 242-pound weight class at the Region 5, Divison 2 meet at Bishop High School. Soliz totaled 1,690.
