FALFURRIAS — One of the hardest things to do in volleyball is to bounce back after losing a game. However, that’s exactly what the Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco Lady Badgers did Tuesday night. What’s more is they have the hardware to prove it.
The Lady Badgers left Falfurrias and their Class 2A, Div. II bi-district match-up against San Perlita with a trophy topped with a gold volleyball.
The girls from Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco won the first game, 25-10. They followed with a 25-13 win in Game 2. They then lost the third game, 25-23, but bounced back and sealed the deal by winning the fourth game, 25-17.
Macy Carrillo had 15 assists. Liana Gonzalez had five aces. Jacqueline Sneed had 13 kills and Stephani Hernandez had 11. Hernandez led the team in digs with 13. Carrie Johnson and Jenna Charles each had 11.
Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco coach Melissa Johnson said her girls have worked hard to get this far this season.
“I’m very proud of this group of girls for their hard work they've put in this season since August 1st to get us to this point,” Johnson said. “My girls are very passionate about the game and bring a contagious level of enthusiasm. They are coachable and are supportive of each other. We are truly a Badger family. We wipe the slate clean tonight and start over with hard work and practice starting Wednesday.”
On Friday, the Lady Badgers won a 16-2A, Div. II district playoff game against Riviera to claim second place in the standings. Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco won the match, 3-1.
The Lady Badgers are getting Woodsboro in the area round of the playoffs. Woodsboro advance by beating Lee Academy of Science and Engineering in three games Tuesday night, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-10.
For the season, the Eagles are 27-2. They were unbeaten through district play.
The area playoff game is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Flour Bluff High School.
