SAN DIEGO — To get an idea of how long it’s been since the San Diego Lady Vaqueros have been in the volleyball state playoffs, consider this — the girls who make up this season’s team hadn’t started kindergarten yet the last time this program was in the postseason.

The last time San Diego was in the volleyball playoffs was 1999. That’s part of what makes this playoff bid so special to the Lady Vaqueros and San Diego.

San Diego is finishing the District 30-3A race in second place and will face Odem in the bi-district round of the playoffs. The playoff game is set for Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Robstown High School. The game begins at 7 p.m.

The Lady Vaqueros are familiar with the Lady Owls. They went head-to-head in tournament play with Odem winning, 2-1.

San Diego coach Missy Gonzalez said the tournament game came when her team was still coming together.

“It wasn’t one of our best games,” Gonzalez said. “It was a tournament game, which don’t count, but they do count. They let you see where you’re at. Well, we didn’t play well enough to win. We had too many errors… to many hitting and serving errors. I think this time around, we have an opportunity to be more successful.”
